“My eyebrows are too light, and that has always bothered me. Since I’m coming to Korea anyway,
I looked for a place that specializes in eyebrow tattooing.
Whether it is called microblading or nano brows does not really matter to customers.
I only want one thing.
Every friend I know ended up looking like Shin-chan after getting their eyebrows done.
Their brows looked too thick, dark, and cartoonish.
I absolutely do not want that.
I want them done more naturally than most people would even ask for.
I want someone meeting me for the first time to have absolutely no idea that I have had an eyebrow tattoo.”
There are many different eyebrow tattoo techniques.
If you want a natural style, there is microblading or nano brows.
If you want a more defined makeup look, there is ombre powder brows.
Or you can choose combo brows, which sits somewhere in between.
Most clients do not really know the differences between these techniques. They simply want the final result they are looking for.
That is why it is the artist’s job to consider the client’s needs, skin, style, and history before deciding on the right design, color, and technique.
Of course, everything is explained and approved before we begin.
Powder brows are very dark in the beginning, so they were immediately ruled out for this client.
Even combo brows felt too bold for what he wanted.
His eyebrow hairs were actually quite fine for a man, but because his expectations were so clear, I knew that only microblading or nano brows could achieve the result he was asking for.
After the consultation, we decided to proceed with MALJANE’s signature microblading.
The direction of this procedure was simple.
Make it so natural that even if people around him say, “You should have gone a little darker since you were getting them done anyway,” someone meeting him for the first time would never realize he had an eyebrow tattoo.
This is especially important with techniques like microblading and nano brows, where individual hair strokes are created.
If an artist gets greedy and packs the strokes too closely together, either because of poor technique or simply over time, those strokes can begin to merge.
They may look beautiful immediately after the procedure, but after three months, six months, or a year, the strokes often blur together and begin to resemble powder brows.
That should never happen.
Hair-stroke techniques should remain individual strokes until they naturally fade away. Otherwise, they lose their identity.
For this reason, I intentionally left proper spacing between every stroke.
I simply stayed true to the fundamentals.
By “fundamentals,” I mean how accurately the artificial strokes match the direction and angle of the client’s natural eyebrow hairs.
In Korean, I call this “결각,” meaning the synchronization between the natural hair flow and the implanted strokes.
Getting this synchronization right is probably the single most important element in techniques like microblading, where naturalness is everything.
It is also the thing I emphasize the most when teaching my students.
In the end, we followed exactly what the client wanted.
He loved the result.
Because this men’s microblading was done very lightly and conservatively while staying true to the fundamentals, it will probably fade naturally after about a year.
Hopefully, when he visits Korea again, he will come back to MALJANE.
This was the case of a client whose biggest wish was simply to have eyebrows so natural that nobody could tell they had ever been done.
